a bottom-up network in the Adriatic Sea

"Protected Adriatic" - BOOK

A closed sea geographically well-defined within its coastlines, rich in natural and human life. A concentration of Biodiversity in the broadest sense of the word: ecological diversity in nature and cultural diversity among men.

A priceless treasure of the planet, this is the Adriatic.

How to manage these places in order to preserve their peculiarities? A system of coastal and marine protected areas seems to be the only system that, despite everything, has been proving effective for more than a century. To systematize protected areas, to create a "Network", a network for sharing cultural exchanges and experiences and, above all, an ecological network. This is the challenge that awaits us in the short term. To make better the future of the Adriatic Sea.

Publication produced as part of the “Small Project” called “AdriaPAN Secretariat”, financed by MEDPAN with funds FFEM, MAVA Foundation and the Foundation Prince Albert II of Monaco - 2nd call 2012-2013.

“Our Region, Our Future”

“Our Region, Our Future”

ADRIAPAN at The 3rd Forum of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR), that will take place in CATANIA (Italy), on 24-25 May 2018.

The purpose of this 3rd EUSAIR Forum is to reinforce collaboration and partnerships among all stakeholders active in the Adriatic-Ionian Region.

Adriapan, a network of more than 40 Protected Areas in the Adriatic-Ionian Region, will participate at the Side-Event specifically dedicated to Eco-Connectivity, to emphasize the importance of "eco-connectivity" and its implementation in the future planning (ICZM and MSP) on national and regional level within Adriatic-Ionian Region/EUSAIR.

Green and Blue Corridors are the key for a more efficient cooperation in the implementation of "eco-connectivity" among protected areas in AIR, Alps and Dinaric ecoregions. The purpose is to take a step forward for the concrete implementation of this idea on transboundary level, promotoing a bottom-up process that will move from Adriapan to AdrIonPAN

The 3rd Forum of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR) will be a great opportunity to achieve the goal, considering that Ministers from the eight EUSAIR Countries, EU Commissioners, representatives of other EU institutions, Regional and local governors and key implementers of the Strategy will be among the speakers joining the Forum.
